The Chronicles of Curly Hair
I know how hard it is to keep up and maintain those luscious locks, especially in the disgustingly humid summers and the extra dry winters. Not all of us have the time or the money to go to a hair salon or to spend big bucks on buying high-end hair styling products that might not even work.
I’m a busy mama, so I get maybe 20 minutes tops to get myself ready for the day so spending an hour doing my hair is not an option. Which is why I choose to stick with more natural hair styles versus putting heat on my hair.
Curl Mathematics
I’ve only just recently got in tune with my curls in the past year, so I’m still learning the ins and outs of what truly makes my curls perfect and how to get down the perfect hair care routine.
Now what works for me will not work for everyone, and what works for you, may not work for me. Please keep that in mind as you read on.
On the curly hair chart, I’m about a 3B so if you fall in this category you’ll know how hard it is to keep the weather from completely ruining your hair. I’ve wasted a lot of money on products that promise “frizz free” results but somehow I’m always a frizzy mess by the end of the day.
After years of throwing away products and putting heat on my hair so I wouldn’t have to deal with the frizz, I’ve finally found what works for my 3B curls.
These are My Top 5 Favorite and Affordable Products for Curly Hair:
1. OGX Shampoo Nourishing Coconut Milk
With curly hair its important to stay away from products with sulfate and other nasty chemicals that can strip your hair from its natural oils. This shampoo makes my scalp feel super clean and anyone who knows me, knows my slight obsession with coconut so it’s a win-win.
2. OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Conditioner
Here’s another OGX product that I completely love, this conditioner quickly became my favorite. The Argan Oil leaves my hair extremely soft and moisturized and on top of that it smells amazing.
3. Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Leave-In Conditioner
If you have curly hair and you are not using a leave-in conditioner, you are doing something very wrong. I have tried lots of Shea Moisture products over the years and I have to say, this leave-in conditioner is truly my holy grail. Apply to clean and damp hair for soft and beautifully defined curls.
4. Cantu Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream
I am so glad I took a chance on this product, it has done wonders for my curl definition. This is really good for day 3 and 4 hair of when your starting to lose definition in your curls but you aren’t ready to wash yet. Just make sure your hair is wet before applying (I swear by my spray bottle mixed with water and a drop of conditioner) and you are good to go!
5. Eco Styler Moroccan Argan Oil Styling Gel
This is the first gel I’ve ever used that doesn’t flake up in my hair after the day is done. It does give your hair a slight crunch but after my hair is dry completely, I fluff my hair at the scalp to loosen the tightness and I’m good to go. This gel keeps my curls in place and frizz-free no matter the weather.
Keep it Curly & Classy
As I mentioned before, these products work great for my 3B curls but I don’t expect them to work for every hair type. Curly hair definitely has a mind of its own but these hair products have helped me so much and my curls have come a long way.
Let me know if you’ve tried these products and what you think! What are some of your go-to curly hair products?

My hair loves the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Leave-In Conditioner. I have tried other products and always come back to it. r
Same! That’s why I swear by it til this day!
It’s really important to find the correct product for your hair. I’m still on a hunt
I always love reading about hair products. I have weird hair too say the least. It is straight with a slight wave/frizz at the ends, and super thin! I always look to see which products would be best to tame this mess. I love to use leave-in conditioners as it really helps my hair. I know the struggles when it comes to finding good hair products and I’m glad I’m not the only one who has that struggle.
Leave-in conditioner is key! Thanks for reading, Jennifer.
These are some great products. Being a wavvy hair girl…I sometimes have to delve into the curly products too!
Thanks for reading, Holly!
I have natural straight hair but I have friends that would be interested in this list so I’ll share this post. xoxo
Thanks, Alexandra!
I don’t have curly hair, but I have a lot of it! So it takes a lot of effort on my part. I can understand the need to find the right products !
It’s like a never-ending hunt!
Oh wow! I have natural hair and I can’t find anything that ever works for me. Natural hair is just not easy, man. Thanks for the honest review on this product. I’m going to check it out.
Don’t I know it! Thanks for reading!
This is so good to know! I’m rather clueless with my hair and my curls are frizzy and lifeless!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
You know I got super straight hair and I love curls. But it’s not easy to keep the curls even with lots of hair product. I did find that styling gel helps keep the curls for a longer time but I haven’t found one that I like yet so I’ll definitely give it a try with your number 5.
You should try it! It’s the best gel I’ve found.
